Chapter 4, pages 42, 43, 44 | 7 new fanart | 20 new fan icons

Um, hi. So. The way my life has been lately, I've found it easier to work on the comic when I think of it as something I do purely for my own enjoyment, without pressure to meet expectations. Unfortunately, this means that I've been neglecting you guys in terms of emails and posts, to say nothing of new pages. I'm very sorry about that. I apologize to anyone who might have worried I was lying in a ditch somewhere having my face chewed off by monitor lizards, and I'm deeply grateful to everyone for their patience and understanding these past months. It continually amazes me that even during the long dry spells people still think of the comic enough to send me emails and make fanworks, as evidenced by the gorgeous new pieces added to the gallery.

So, anyway, go read the new pages, and I promise that the next set will not take another three months. ^^;; To keep track of updates, as always, there's the mailing list or the Livejournal feed, which doubles as an RSS feed.

Oh, and I'm afraid I've decided to take down the shoutbox. For comments and discussion, there's still the forum; or, you can leave comments on the LJ.

I've found it easier to work on the comic when I think of it as something I do purely for my own enjoyment,

I always admired the dedication of webcomic creators who deliver consistently on a regular basis and I really really want to be at that same point some day. But then I have so much going on in my personal life, I like flexibility!

Don't feel guilty at all. I love the fact that you're sharing this awesome story with us and I don't want you to be burned out with that!

I can't speak for everyone, but I'd rather you feel good about drawing the comic than give us regular updates. ^_^ Besides, when updates are infrequent, every update is a wonderful surprise!

New pages? Wonderful! I'd been afraid you'd gone away for good. (Not that you know me. But I found your comic and sat down to read it all in one sitting. Did I mention I love fairy tales?)

Wonderful, new pages. :) I'm pleased to hear that you're doing well. I'd also rather have you publish pages that you enjoyed working on, rather than pages that you feel obligated to make, because as a fellow webcomic artist, I think that the latter type tend to be crappier.

Just wanted to say, I love your work! It's such a fascinating story. Your take on fairy tales and your sense of humor make what is overused material fresh and exciting again! Your comic had slipped my mind these last few months when I had lost internet access but when I happened to read the manga Ludwig Kakumei, it reminded me so strongly of your comic that I had to run to the public library computers to read No Rest for the Wicked again straight from the beginning!

I don't know if you've read Ludwig Kakumei before, but it's another take (a much more sinister and slutty take) on fairy tales. There's Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and so much more. http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=1269 is the information about the manga. You can also easily download it from the scanlators at http://aerandria.net/projects/current/ludwig-kakumei/ Best of all, the manga is only two chapters away from completion!

Don't worry! That you should take breaks or update at a slow pace is infinitely preferable to the webcomic becoming a huge burden. Thanks for the absolutely wonderful work you've given us thus far!

Yay, and update!!! Don't feel bad about what all those people were saying. It's good to do things the way you want them. But if you ever decide to discontinue the comic, at least post something explaining the storyline and the ending so we're not all left hanging!!! =P You've got such a great story going, it'd be a shame to never know how it ended up.

I really love your work and am very excited to get an update; thank you. I am drawn to your comic by the quality of your drawing and the way you treat fairy tales. It's fabulous.

I don't mind waiting for comic updates, but I would have appreciated a news update in that time. Just a "Hi, my life is crazy right now and the comic is going on haitus" on the front page would have made me (and a lot of other people, I think) less worried.

I'm glad that you have come up with an approach that lets you enjoy making the comic again. It seems like you have bursts where you get really excited about making the comic, and post several pages that you have just made. It seems like you feel that you have to deliver everything you have made to the fans immediately. I think it would be better to post them one at a time. This would allow you to build up a cushion to protect you from being overwhelmed by pressure to produce new pages. I also think that it would keep your fans more engaged with the site if you had, for example, two small updates in a month rather than one big update.

Obviously, you have to do what works for you, but it's a thought I wanted to share.

Keep up the good work, sweetie! I know I'm a lurker, but I've been following you for years. <3 Keep your head up. You've always been kept in my very select list of web-comics to keep in my bookmarks. Your work is epic, your writing beautiful and wholesome in its own way.

Don't feel pressured - I still find it an honor to view the new pages, no matter how long life busies you between them.

Long Breaks & Not Having Fun

I've bailed out of far too many projects because they stopped being fun. Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever actually finish something or if I should stick to very short stories instead.

Please keep going. I'm very impressed by this comic's depths and the strangeness of every character. This is one of the few truly enthralling comics I've read this year. I was very sad when I hit the end.

I love all the main characters and the twists on the faerie tales are great. Even when a character shows up that I can identify from a story, they end up being so different that it's still absolutely new.

I really love this comic. Try to get a comic company behind you, if you can. This is equal to a lot of Japanese manga, and far better than most of the comics put out by the main american companies when they aren't doing just superheroes.

^_^ The new pages were great, but it was better to know you weren't ill or worse-off or anything. Half the time I checked back on the website I was just looking for a news update to see if you'd been hit by a car or a pterodactyl or something.

I really do love this comic. The fairy-tale element is just so different from what I'm used to reading online, and you've taken such a refreshing look at them -- completely made them your own -- that this is one of the comics I look most forward to reading.

All artwork should be primarily because you enjoy doing it. If you stop enjoying it, the work suffers. I've come to this late, but I love it a lot. You're very talented and your imagination is wonderful. I love the Princess being called November... does this mean she's a Scorpio?... like moi?!

The trouble with creativity is that life keeps getting in the way!!! Happens to me too... sigh! Sometimes it's best to step back and do other things to let your mind rest for a bit. Then you can come back to it fresh.

Good luck, our kid.

Hey you! Are you alive? I stumbled across your amazing comic, fell in love with it, and now I wonder if you'll ever update it again. Please say yes. As a fellow writer, I'm blown away by the plot so far. I absolutely love what you've done with the fairytale mythos, and I really will be very upset with you if you are in fact lying in a ditch somewhere, getting your face chewed on. Let's have none of that, shall we?

But it's the not hearing from you part that's got me worried.

Um... well please be safe, and keep creating no matter what it is. Heck, you could even stick up the occasional doodle and we'd all probably fawn over it. ^ ^;;;
